Member of Technical Staff (Returnship) 

 

The Path Forward Return to Work program at VMware is an 18-week paid returnship for experienced professionals returning to the workforce after taking time off for caregiving. The program is open to women and men who have at least 5 years of professional experience and have been out of the paid workforce for at least two years to focus on caring for a child or other dependent. Role and Responsibilities: 

We are looking for extremely talented Software programmers to join our core engineering team in Palo Alto, CA with excellent C/C++ skills, deep algorithms and data structures knowledge, and strong familiarity with Windows and Linux operating system internals and/or driver development.  In this role, you will be part of the Blast Protocol development group within Horizon, industry leading VDI solution. You will have the opportunity to work on implementing desktop encoding and decoding algorithms including porting them to GPU. You will work in a fast-paced team of talented and motivated co-workers. 

Required Skills:  

  • Good experience in C/C++, multi-threaded software development, and concurrent distributed systems 

  • Experience with CUDA or OpenCL programming 

  • Excellent knowledge of OS kernel internals, including memory management, resource management, and interrupt architecture 

  • Excellent understanding of algorithms and data structures theory with practical application 

  • Strong understanding of optimization, memory management, concurrency, and multithreading 

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent 

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills 

Preferred Skills:  

  •  Knowledge of graphics driver stack on Windows and Linux operating systems. 

  •  Familiarity with one or more performance profilers such as VTune, XPerf, gprof, etc. 

  •  Knowledge of GPU, CPU, and overall system architectures
