Information Experience Senior Manager

Summary

The Information Experience (IX) Senior Manager works with the IX leadership, R&D Operations and Central Services (ROCS), and product development teams to lead alargeteam of technical writers. Information Experience has a core mission to deliver product documentation and help systems that help customers achieve their goals. To produce the customer-facing product documentation, IX uses many enterprise-level content management, authoring, and deployment tools. 

As Senior Manager, you lead a distributed team to deliver documentation and drive innovation throughout the department and community. You require little supervision to work with stakeholders, including Product Management, developers, outside vendors, IX team members,andsiteand business unitleadership to ensure the successful delivery of product documentation. In addition to leading an IX team, you are responsible for crafting goals and tracking results to demonstrate team success.

The IX team is one of many functional areas of the largerROCS team. Asa senior ROCS leader in Sofia, you take a site management role for ROCS, ensuring that ROCS employees have a local leadership connection, can attend local meetings and activities, andget support. You will serve as an initial point of contact for other business units to interact with ROCS, and you enthusiastically work to anticipate their business needs and requirements. 

The Senior Manager should be results-oriented, possesses extraordinary interpersonal skills, and enjoy working as part of a distributed, global team in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a product help and documentation group end-to-end to support several products/services or business units

  • Grow relationships with site leaders and product teams on behalf of the department

  • Work with Product teams to understand customers, product needs, schedules, and requirements

  • Engage with company support teams such as HR, Staffing, IT, Support, etc. to execute business goals

  • Hire and allocate contractor and employee resources to support product engagements

  • Make resource allocation and product engagement decisions strategically and independently

  • Manage,train,mentor, and build a team of technical writers with hands-on product experience

  • Provide career mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development discussions to your team members in a regular and constructive manner

  • Represent VMware externally to the technical writing community to build a hiring pipeline and to demonstrate industry leadership

  • Collaborate with IX and ROCS leadership teams to consistently improve our processes and technologies and nurture innovation, and to grow the capabilities of the team

Required Skills and Experience

  • Positive attitude to engage with a diverse set of global teams

  • Prior management experience and ability to lead a large team, including managing other managers

  • People management skills to set clear objectives and accountability standards for team members

  • Proven ability to understand and synthesize technical information

  • Proven ability to think strategically with a focus on business objectives

  • Project management skills to effectively track and lead the work of your team

  • Familiarity with technical writing teams and content development processes

  • Extraordinary communication and organization skills

  • Degree in Computer Science, Communications, or a similar field demonstrating analytical skills

  • 5+ years of management experience
