  • The Cloud Platform I/O R&D Beijing Team is part of VMware global R&D organization and is responsible for VMware core product R&D for hardware partners and focusing on hardware technology enablement in the storage, networking and server domains. We are seeking IO technology development engineers with hands-on software skills developing vSphere storage/networking drivers, I/O stacks and protocols, I/O management software, and systems software. As a senior engineer you will have direct exposure to core VMware technology and products, work closely with a strong engineering team, and collaborate and consult with VMware storage and network partners to jointly develop solutions that enable VMware and its partner ecosystem to effectively address challenges and tap into opportunities presented in a Cloud computing environment.

    Responsibilities

    Work with a talented and energetic engineering team, and innovate on I/O technologies and solutions for VMware next generation virtualization and cloud products
    Develop leading-edge and high-performance I/O system, solution software and plug-ins for the next wave of cloud and performance-sensitive applications
    Collaborate with I/O solution partners, and provide development consultation and guide the design/changes required to enable their latest I/O technology in VMware products
    Work with multiple groups/engineers across sites toward accomplishing the work as one team
    Collect and generalize valuable engineering requirements from I/O solution partners and influence the design decision and implementation of next-gen VMware products
    Provide high quality documentation of storage solution APIs and devkits to partners for efficient self-enablement

    Requirements

    A passion for making and delivering well-architected enterprise-class virtualization products for cloud computation era
    Good C programming skills,

    Good understanding of operating system and computer architecture, have experiences with Linux kernel is a plus,
    Hands on experience configuring storage and associated components and resolving complex software defects,
    Good interpersonal and communication skills; be able to interact well with developers at VMware and global partners,

    Solid English speaking and reading/writing skills,
    Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science (MS or PhD in CS or CE preferred)

    Optional Requirements

    Knowledge on storage multi-path, fault-tolerance, storage backup, and disaster recovery
    Knowledge on local and remote storage protocols: SAS/SATA, FC/FCoE, iSCSI, and NFS
    Experience in high-performance I/O technology, e.g., SSD etc.
    Industry experience in system engineering and working with storage solution vendors
    Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills with ability to prioritize and handle multiple outstanding tasks and deliver products timely
